When Should You Call?

When we first meet with our clients, we explain that AFG is a comprehensive wealth management firm.  But what does that really mean?  It means that we are here to help you with any part of your financial life.  We help our clients save for retirement, pay for education, and plan for income needs in retirement, but there is so much more.  In fact, there are many areas that we can help with that may not seem obvious at the time.  We thought it would be beneficial to remind you of some of the important times in your life when you should call or email us.

Here are some obvious and not so obvious times we hope to hear from you:

Retirement – In an ideal world, we work with our clients before retirement so we can help determine that you are on track and able to afford to retire.

Job change – A change in your career can have a positive or negative affect on your finances.  We can help advise you on the benefits offered through your new employer and how to handle any retirement accounts through your former employer.

Sale or purchase of real estate – There are many factors to consider when buying or selling real estate.  Is this an income producing property? Will it increase or decrease how much income you need to take from your portfolio?  How will a sale impact your taxes?

Business liquidation – How are you structuring the sale of your business?  Will we need to adjust your portfolio to offset any tax implications?

Inheritance – What are your goals for this gift? Be sure you understand payout options and the corresponding tax consequences.

Change in marital status – Will you need to adjust your goals based on a change in your family?

Birth or death – These can greatly affect your financial life.

Graduation- Will you need to begin paying for education debts, or can you redirect funds to a new goal now that schooling is complete?

This list is only the beginning.  I am sure you can think of times in your life when you have called us or realized that you should have called us.  Just know that we love hearing from you and no question is too small to ask.

Our goal is to help you make wise decisions with your money, and we see transitional life events as times when we can work with you to maximize any benefit or minimize any challenges that may come your way.
